THE RISE OF VPO



In January 2020, Nordic Entertainment Group, owner of Viaplay, annouced the brilliant news that we have acquired the broadcasting rights to the most important padel circuit in the world, the World Padel Tour (WPT). For the next four years, we will broadcast all finals in the Nordic countries.


So, how do we best increase people's interest in WPT? We organize the Nordic region's largest padel tournament and target the greatest group there is; amateur players.


VPO is played locally, at 80 centers and clubs across Sweden, Denmark, Finland and Norway. The winners advance to the next stages, where the final stage is the International tournament. Here, the games will be broadcasted live on Viaplay and the winners will walk away with 40 000 SEK.

HOW TO SIGN UP



AS A PLAYER





Easy! Find a participating center and ask them to sign you up to their local tournament. Keep in mind that there are limited spots at each center, so don't wait too long

You are welcome to join as many centers' local tournaments as you wish, you'll just have to pay the entry fee each time.



AS A PADEL CENTER





Even easier! Just email us and we will take it from there. Last date to sign up is 10/07/2020.


We don't charge padel centers for participating, as you are the organizers for your local qualification. You can choose any date between 15th May - 15th September to host your tournament. We will supply you with prizes, posters and social media coverage, and you will charge the sign-ups an entry fee that covers your cost of courts etc. This is the only fee that the players will be paying.

Below you will find the set time frames. Check out participating centers to find each center's local tournament date. Once you win the local tournament, you move on to the next stages!


Local tournament: 15. May – 15. September 2020


Regional tournament (only in Sweden):

19. September in Göteborg, at Acapuco Padel Club

26-27. September in Västerås, at Bäckby Park Padel

3-4. October in Jönköping, at Padel & Friends

10-11. October in Hässleholm, at Hässleholms Padelklubb


National tournament:

10. October in Denmark, Racket Club Copenhagen

17, October in Finland, Padel Tampere

24. October in Norway, Allstar Padel Oslo

25. October in Sweden, Padel Arena Frihamnen


International tournament: POSTPONED
As a result of the latest COVID-19 developments, we are forced to postpone the VPO international finals that were supposed to happen on November 14th 2020 in Copenhagen.


We are just as disappointed as the next fan. At this moment, we don't have a new date for you, but as soon as we do, we will post it here on our facebook and instagram. One thing stays true though - we will bring you some fantastic Nordic padel with 2x four champion teams from Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Finland as soon as it is possible!

PARTICIPANTS



Viaplay Padel Open is played in couples of men or women, where the men play against men, and the women against women. So in total, two tournaments will be played!


All players in the Nordic region are welcome to participate! However, for this tournament to remain an amateur tournament, we ask the elite players in each country to refrain from competing. The elite consists of people who play for their national team and/or are top ranked in their national ranking. You'll find a full list of the elite players below, under "Rules".



PRIZES



There are great prizes at each stage of the tournament!


Local tournament: 3-months free Viaplay voucher
Regional tournament: Padel bag or backpack from HEAD
National tournament: Padel equipment from HEAD for 600 EUR
International tournament: In addition to live broadcasting time on Viaplay, there is a cash prize:

1st place: 40 000 SEK
2nd place: 15 000 SEK
3rd place: 5 000 SEK

RULES



In general, World Padel Tour's official rules apply. However, the local centers have the last say. It is the local
centers who decide on the tournament form in their own tournaments. Here below follow two additional rules.



1. AMATEURS ONLY





Viaplay Padel Open is a tournament for amateur players. To ensure that it remains an amateur tournament, we ask elite players (top ranked players) in each country to refrain from competing. You can see the full list by clicking on the button below.


We think these men and women are fantastic and congratulate them on their success! However, now it is time to let other players shine.


SEE ELITE PLAYERS

2. SEEDING





To create a fun tournament for all, we are introducing seeding! This means that players with strong records (either backed up by official ranking or by the padel center owner) might be able to proceed to the Regionals without playing the Local tournament.


You sign up as a seeded player at your local center, who discusses with us. The deadline to sign up as a seeded player is 26th of June.



FAQ



Q: CAN I PLAY IN SEVERAL CENTERS' LOCAL TOURNAMENTS?

A: Yes, you can compete in as many center's local tournaments as you wish! That is, until you win in one. However you'll have to pay the entry fee each time.


Should you happen to win in two centers' tournaments, then the runner up at the second center will move on. Should you happen to win twice, but with different partners, then the second partner will not move on (instead, the runner-ups will).



Q: ARE THERE ANY FEES OTHER THAN THE ENTRY FEE?

A: No the entry fee is the only fee. We pay for the courts from the Regional tournament and on. However, all travel or food costs you'll have to pay for yourself :)



Q: DO I HAVE TO PLAY IN THE LOCAL TOURNAMENT, CAN I SKIP TO THE NEXT STAGE?

A: Yes you have to play in the local tournament. Only a handful of seeded players will start from the Regional tournament.
